Interracial conflict among local orthodoxy as well as rabbinical circles has again caused the City Commission to postpone action for two weeks on the proposed ordinance regulating the sale and inspection of kosher meat. The proposed law would be supplementary to a state act making it illegal for butchers to sell non-kosher meats in a store displaying Kashruth signs.
The conflict is understood to be centering over who shall do the inspecting. At present, three orthodox rabbis, Joseph Konvitz, Chaim Glatzer and Louis Weller are vested with the authority and have municipal badges signifying authority.
