Human rights groups in the Palestinian self-rule areas complained on Tuesday that they had not been allowed to visit prisoners in Palestinian Authority jails for two weeks. A senior Palestinian security official defended the ban, saying it resulted from “continuous attempts by these groups to misinterpret prison conditions.”
