The same was true of Royal #cott Gulden, anti-Semitic organizer and leader of the Order of ’76, who for a time had entertained aspirations as a would-be Congressman from the eighteenth district, but who found himself left out in the cold a few days ago when Zahne told his adherents to concentrate on Hylan.
REASON FOR REJOICING
Jews throughout the country also found cause for rejoicing in a rebuke issued to racial prejudice in Pennsylvania, where Representative Louis T. McFadden, openly anti-Semitic Republican, was defeated in his appeal for reelection. He was beaten by a New Deal Democrat, C. Emler Dietrich, McFadden, who has been in Congress for twenty years, recently has aligned himself with crackpot discrimination preachers in many sections of the country.
Numerous Jewish allies of the New Deal were returned or newly elected to Congress in several states. One of these was Representative Adolph J. Sabath of Illinois, who will return to Washington for his fifteenth consecutive term.
At least one Republican Jewish candidate succeeded in bucking the Democratic tide which carried almost everything before it. She was the ever-popular Mrs. Florence P. Kahn, Congresswoman from California.
