The Herut section of the Gahal Herut-Liberal fusion faction in Israel’s Parliament accepted yesterday the resignation of Menahem Beigin as chairman of the faction and named Yohanan Bader to succeed him. The chairmanship of the faction rotates every three months between a Herut and a Liberal Member of Knesset,
Beigin resigned last week as chairman of the Herut Party at the party’s convention despite efforts of party leaders to refuse the resignation. He also offered to resign as a Parliamentary deputy. He accused members of the opposition in Herut of working “behind his back.”
