The Government is enforcing payment of the Collective Punishment Fine imposed upon the town of Hebron for the part played by its Arab population in the massacre of its Jewish residents in the outbreak of August 1929, working out at about twelve shillings a year from each Arab, excepting those who defended Jews during the massacres, until the whole amount of the compensation, fixed at £ 14,000, has been fully paid.

The Arabs have asked the Government to give them a month’s grace, but the authorities have consented to only three days grace.
