“Arrest, exile and torture us all you wish,” said the Arab headmen of Hebron to the district officer demanding that they surrender the organizers of the massacre, according to a report in the “Felestin.” Speaking on behalf of the notables, the mayor of Hebron is reported to have said: “Why ask us to surrender the conspirators after arresting hundreds, and imprisoning and sentencing to death others during the last four months?”
