No date has yet been definitely fixed for the completion of the survey of the proposed railway from Haifa to Baghdad, Dr. Drummond Shiels, the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies, said in the House of Commons to-day in reply to Sir Arthur Steel Maitland (Conservative), former Minister of Labour and an ex-Colonial Under-Secretary, who had asked if he would state when the survey of the Haifa Railway would be finished.
The consulting engineers hope, Dr. Shiels went on, that most of the field work will be completed early in the Autumn and that their report will be ready by the end of the year.
