Herbert Spencer Martin, vice-president of S. W. Straus & Co., fell, yesterday, from his Park Avenue apartment, and was killed.
Mr. Martin, who had been ill, planned to leave for Egypt today with his wife, who is the daughter of Mr. Straus. Besides his wife, Mr. Martin leaves three children.
In July 1923, Mr. Martin, who was then owner of M. Martin and Co., turned over his business to his employees, giving up all active interest and becoming chairman of the board of directors. He was active during the World War in Liberty Loan drives, war work campaigns and Red Cross drives. He was honorary secretary and member of the board of directors of Montefiore Home; member of the board of trustees of Bedford Sanitarium, and councillor of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philantropic Societies.
