President von Hindenburg has conferred the Honor Shield of the Republic, an award for distinguished service in letters or science, on Prof. Emil Warburg, considered in Germany the founder of modern experimental physics. Prof. Warburg is eighty years old.
The bronze shield, upon which is engraved the German eagle, is awarded for one year. Only four men have held it so far, the first being Gerhart Hauptmann, the novelist.
