The Ger Rebbe, scion of one of the most influential chassidic dynasties in Poland, who recently arrived in Palestine, narrowly escaped arrest today when he visited the Cave of Machpela near Hebron, where lie buried the Hebrew patriarchs.

Unaware that a permit is needed to visit the cave, which is now in Arab hands, the Ger Rebbe succeeded in vanishing when police arrested many of his followers who crowded around in an attempt to enter the holy tomb. Many of the Rebbe’s followers were beaten up by the police.
