General Hugh S. Johnson today announced his resignation from the America First Committee. “The words of some of the principal speakers of the America First Committee began to take on a tone of religious or racial intolerance in which I can have no part,” Gen. Johnson stated in his announcement in his syndicated column. The principal reason for his resignation was the decision of the Committee to participate in next year’s elections of Senators and Representatives.
