French President Nicolas Sarkozy will not attend Israel’s 60th Independence Day celebrations.
Sarkozy was expected to be among the international notables flocking to Jerusalem for the gala events in May, but Israel Radio reported Tuesday that his visit had been postponed to late June.
France’s clarification was made while Sarkozy hosted Israeli President Shimon Peres in Paris.
The French president told Peres that while he remains committed to Israel’s security, he sees tackling the West Bank settlement issue as the key.
