Franz Waxman, a prominent Jewish composer who won “Oscars” from the Motion Picture Academy for two movie scores he composed, died at Mount Sinai Hospital here this weekend at the age of 60. Born in Germany, Mf. Waxman studied music in Berlin and fled to Paris in 1933 when the Nazis came to power. His score for a French film brought him to Hollywood the following year and he remained here to compose the music for many American movies.
