The German city of Frankfurt-on-the-Main, where Jews have been residing since the 13th century and which was known as a center of Jewish orthodox learning, is now completely "judenrein," the Nazi radio announced today. Also the entire province of Hesse-Nassau.
The announcement was made during a speech delivered in Frankfurt by the local Nazi district commissioner, Sprenger, and broadcast throughout Europe. "The birthplace of Goethe, once the metropolis of Jewry, has been restored to its reputation as the spiritual center of Southern Germany after being cleansed from the alien Jewish influence," he said.
The Nazi Labor Commissioner, Dr. Robert Ley, addressing the same gathering, called upon all Germans "to continue their fight against Jews without any compromise." He echoed the slogan proclaimed by Goebbels last week that "the Jews must be destroyed because they are the eternal enemy of Germany’s expansion," and added that no Nazi leader will have done his duty unless he actively participates in the work of annihilating the Jews.
SWEDISH PRESS PREDICTS NEW ANTI-JEWISH TERROR IN NAZI-HELD TERRITORIES
Swedish newspapers today predicted a new wave of anti-Jewish terror in Germany and in all Nazi-occupied territories. They also foresee greater pressure by the Nazis upon their satellite countries in order to force them to adopt the same policy of merciless extermination of the Jews.
The Svenska Dagbladet, a Stockholm newspaper, reports that official circles in Berlin have definitely decided to intensify anti-Jewish activities. They hold that what the Nazis have done to the Jews up to now is not enough. They emphasize that they see in the extermination of the Jews "a decisive contribution to the conclusion of the war."
The Berlin correspondent of the same newspaper reports today that though it is impossible to forecast the nature of the new anti-Jewish measures which the Nazis are planning, such measures are definitely being prepared. At the same time the Nazi press service reports today from Berlin that courses in the Arab language were introduced this week all over Germany for members of the Hitler Youth organization.
DEPORTATION OF JEWS IS CAUSING DIFFICULTIES FOR RUMANIA
The Swedish press also reports that the deportations of Jews in Rumania to the Axis-held Russian territory of Transnistria, as well as the mass-internment of Jews in various labor camps have produced great difficulties for the local non-Jewish population.
Quoting the Rumanian newspaper Universul, the press here relates that the municipal council of the Rumanian city of Tulcea is seriously handicapped by the fact that it has been unable to find a competent director for the city’s public utilities since all Jewish engineers have been deported from the town.
