Four Jews, including one woman, were killed and many persons wounded when plainclothes police rioted in Tel Aviv tonight as an aftermath to the discovery this morning of the bodies of two British non-commissioned officers hanged by the Irgun.
The four deaths occurred when the police fired into a bus passing along Allenby Road, in the center of the city. Thirteen other passengers were wounded. Other Jews were badly beaten by revving police squads, and four were hospitalized.
In another incident an armored car occupied by 12 policeman pulled up outside the Ginati Cafe in the center of the city and the occupants dashed into the restaurant, shooting wildly and smashing windows and furniture. A clash occurred when patrons of the cafe fought off the policemen’s attempt to kidnap a Jewish youth. Four Jews were injured, one seriously, and one policeman was hurt. The raid occurred before the bus was fired upon.
