Former Congressman Herbert Tenzer, an attorney and communal leader, has been named president of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York. Announcement of his election followed the 30th annual meeting of the organization’s board of directors. Tenzer succeeds Morris L, Levinson who has been elected as chairman of the Board of Governors. Referring to the 13,000 Soviet Jews who arrived in Israel last year and noting that Jewish emigration from the Soviet Union currently continues on a large scale, Tenzer said: “This historic exodus presents an unprecedented challenge to the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York, It means that support of the UJA campaign In this community must reach far greater heights than ever before.”
