The Jewish War Veterans said today it had persuaded the Orange Bowl committee to drop plans to hold its Orange Bowl tennis ball at a restricted Miami Beach Club.
Milton A. Waldor, JWV commander, said that the Orange Bowl committee changed its plans to hold the event in the Bath Club after the JWV Florida department lead an inter-faith, inter-racial campaign against the proposal in Miami Beach. The effort was led by Florida JWV commander Irving Cooperman and past national commander Daniel Miller.
"It is indeed unfortunate, " Mr. Waldor said, "that the Orange Bowl committee, which represents an important civic function in the state of Florida, involving people of all races, creeds and religions, and supported by public funds, saw fit to blemish such an undertaking by exposing it to a manifestation of bigotry." He complimented the committee, however, for agreeing to change the site for the December 17th function.
