Five Nazis and Polish collaborators who murdered Jews or were responsible for their killing were this week sentenced to death in various Polish courts. In addition, nine others received various prison terms for killing, torturing or mistreating Jews.
Among the condemned were Johann Rauch, former chief of the Janov death camp, near Lwow; Jeshi Gaudyn, a Polish policeman serving the Nazis who murdered a Pole who helped Jews escape the Gestapo; and three members of a Polish fascist bandit gang which preyed on Jews during the Nazi occupation. The bandits were named Chmislevsky Pouchala and Mrouvka.
