The first B’nai B’rith lodge in Dublin, Ireland, has just been established, according to word received at B’nai B’rith headquarters here. With the establishment of this lodge, Eire joins 32 other countries of the free world in containing a center of B’nai B’rith service and cultural activities. In its 110 years of existence, B’nai B’rith has never before had a lodge in Ireland.
Among the officers of the Dublin B’nai B’rith Lodge are a member of the Dail (Irish Parliament), a trial lawyer, a professor at Trinity College and two leading sportsmen. Other members are prominent in Jewish communal work, particularly in the Jewish Representative Council of Dublin, which coordinates the activities of most of the Jewish organizations in that city. The Jewish population of the Irish Free State is estimated at 5,400, most of whom live in Dublin.
