The British construction firm of Richard Costain has agreed to eliminate a rider from a contract with a Jewish firm, Crown Dean Holdings, which stipulated that Costain would not be obliged to violate the Arab boycott of Israel. The Jewish firm broke off negotiations with Costain because it would not deal with a firm that complied with the Arab boycott. But an amicable agreement was reached between the two companies through the intervention of the Trades Advisory Council, it was announced today.
The announcement said, “Mr. Maurice Orbach, MP. General Secretary of the TAC, together with Mr. Moss Spiro, chairman of Crown Dean Holdings, met Sir Robert Taylor, of Costains and one of his colleagues, in connection with allegations that have been made. An amicable discussion resulted in Messrs. Costain stating that the draft rider to the contract which was the cause of differences is not being applied and will not be applied in any agreement.”
