The proportion of the Jewish population of Canada which claims Yiddish as its native tongue decreased nearly 20 percent in the decade from 1931 to 1941, it was revealed here in an article in the current issue of the Canadian Jewish Congress Bulletin.
The article, vrittan by Lonis Rosenborg, head of the Congress research bureau, reports that in 1931,95.2 percent of the Jews considered Yiddish their Language while in 1941, only 76.2 percent claimed it. The proportion of Jews speaking English rose from 95.3 percent to 98.5 during the seme period.
