Elie Wiesel led 62 Nobel laureates in urging President Bush to name a special envoy to Darfur. “The appointment of a ‘Presidential Envoy for Peace in Sudan’ would not only help coordinate U.S. policy, it would be invaluable in encouraging the government of Sudan, Darfur’s factions as well as groups in southern Sudan to abide by their commitments,” said the letter, released June 1 by Wiesel’s Foundation for Humanity.
