The American section of the Yiddish Scientific Institute of Vilna, at 1133 Broadway, New York, made public the following text of a message sent by Prof, Albert Einstein to Dr. Simon Dubnow, Jewish historian, who is honorary chairman of the history section of the Institute:
“The impoverishment of Eastern Europe, caused by great political events, placed the Jewish masses in a difficult economic position. The urgent need was first of all to preserve their mere existence. However, man does not live on bread alone, certainly not a Jew. When a small group of people of the spiritual elite have gathered together in the Yiddish Scientific Institute in order to preserve the spiritual and moral, tradition of our people and wherever possible, to continue the further development of this tradition, this striving deserves the sympathy and the energetic support of those who are in a position to lend them. The names of those responsible men affiliated with the work is a guarantee for the proper application of the means supplied.”
Arrangements are now being made for the erection of a new synagogue and community center in Tarrytown. N. Y. by the Hebrew Cengregation of the Tarrytonws in cooperation with the Ladies’ Hebrew Arnciliary, the Young People’s Eorum and the Y.W.H.A.
A tract of land has already been purchased and the building committee is now at work. The new edifice is to cost about $100,000. Aaron Lefkowite of the Jewish Institute of Religion is the acting Rabbi.

More than 200 acceptances have been rectived for the tea to be given by Mrs. S. W. Strans for the Women’s Division of the Fedecation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies at the Hotel Ambassador on Thursday. April 23. Lady Dureen Marie Tifiany of the Metrnpulitan Opera Company, and Francine Larrimoce will be among the guests of honor .
The committee on arrangements for the tea includes Mrs. Sidney C. Boeg. Mrs. Heany M. Black Mrs. Frederick Brown. Mrs. Julins Kaufman, Mrs. Arthur Lehman. Mrs. Carl A. Loeb. Mrs. Leopold Plant and Mrs. Felix M. Warhurg.
