The British Government has received assurances through the United Nations that, generally speaking,” the deportation of Jews of British nationality from Egypt “could be considered a closed chapter.” Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Ian Harvey reported today in the House of Commons.

Replying to representations by Barnet Janner, Laborite and president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Mr. Harvey indicated, however, that “indirect pressures” on the Jews to emigrate still continue.
