Egypt reinforced its border with the Gaza Strip out of concern Palestinians could try to break through again.

The hundreds of Egyptian troops posted along the Sinai-Gaza frontier performed bolstering work on the border wall Thursday in response to hints from Hamas that Palestinians could force their way across.

Hamas blew up the previous border wall in January, allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to stream into the Sinai to stock up on provisions deprived them under an Israeli-led embargo of Gaza.

The Cairo regime, which is mindful of Hamas’ links to its biggest Egyptian opposition group, the Moslem Brotherhood, has threatened a harsh response to any new Palestinian incursion attempts.

To remove the commercial lure, Egypt has also been preventing trucks from delivering goods to Rafah, a town on the Gaza border.
