Earl Warren Receives Honorary Degree from Hebrew U., Will Head Truman Center Board

Former Chief Justice Earl Warren was awarded last weekend an honorary degree by the Hebrew University and it was disclosed that he had agreed to serve as chairman of the international board of overseers for the Harry S. Truman Center for the Advancement of Peace, on Mount Scopus. Five university professors each received the Morris J. Kaplun international prize of $5,000 to further their research. They were Arye Dvoretsky, Shmuel Eisenstadt, Jacob Mager, Isadore Twersky and Ephraim Urbach. A sixth award will be made at a later date in the United States to Prof. Milton J. Konvitz of Cornell University who will come to the Truman Center as a visiting professor. Mr. Warren said in his acceptance speech that he was not worried by student unrest, declaring he believed that “there is enough flexibility built into our institutions so that real social change is possible.”
