Professor Erwin Panofsky, formerly of the University of Hamburg, Germany, an eminet authority in the field of Northern European Paintings, has been appointed visiting professor of Fine Arts in the Graduate School of New York University. He will lecture under the auspices of the University at the Metropolitan Museum of Art during the coming semester, it was announced by Chancellor Harry Woodburn Chase.
Dr. Panofsky’s appointment was made possible by the patronage of a group of well known art collectors and connoisseurs including Paul Baerwald, George Blumenthal, Leonard A. Cohen, Alfred A. Cook, Mrs. W. Murray Crane, Henry Goldman, William Goldman, Henry Ittleson, Arthur Lehman, Philip Lehman, Emanuel Libman, Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Mack, Walter W. Naumburg, William C. Osborne, Rev. W.S. Prunty, Ernst Rosenfeld, Arthur H. Sulzberger, Lionel F. Straus, Mrs. Lillian Wadsworth, Felix M. Warburg and an anonymous donor.
