Dr. Max Beer, dean of the correspondents covering the United Nations, and former correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, died here today, aged 79.
Born in Vienna, he studied at the Heidelberg University in Germany, took a law degree at the Sorbonne in Paris, and became one of the foremost correspondents at the League of Nations, where he represented the Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung of Berlin, a leading German newspaper. When Hitler came to power, the newspaper was forced to dismiss him because of his Jewish descent. He then became the correspondent of the became United Nations correspondent for the Neue Zuercher Zeitung, leading Swiss newspaper published in Zurich.
