Dr. Israel Bettan, president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis and Professor Emeritus of Homiletics and Midrash at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, died here. He was 68.
Born in Kaunas, Lithuania and educated in the United in the United States, Dr. Bettan had served as a rabbi and World War I chaplain overseas. He is the author of a number of books on Jewish preaching and post-Biblical Judaism.
