The City of Hebron, which until 1929 was fairly prosperous has suffered a steady decline since August of that year, when many Jews were ruthlessly done to death by Arabs of the city and neighborhood.

It is interesting that the Hebron correspondent of “Falastin” complains of the exceptionally bad economic situation in Hebron, and suggests the development of the town as a summer resort. The correspondent reports that at present nearly 50 per cent of Hebron’s dwellings are untenanted.

This betokens an effort on the part of the Hebron Arabs to find some means of revenue with which to replace the money which the Hebron Jewish Community had previously brought into the city.
