May Day passed quietly in a Holy Land tense with Arab-Jewish antagonism. No disturbances attributable to the international labor holiday were reported.

However, an Arab policeman named Charida Buayon was shot dead in the market place of the Arab city of Tulkarem. It was understood he had been carrying on some secret investigation. The murderer escaped.

A strong detachment of British police searched an Arab village on Mount Carmel, near Haifa, and discovered a large quantity of rifles, bombs and ammunition.
