A spokesman for the Daughters of the American Revolution today declared that the national organization would take no responsibility for anti-Semitic remarks of any of its members or others speaking before DAR groups. She noted that the DAR is a non-partisan, non-sectarian organization which “cannot possibly support as a matter of national policy any attack upon any other group of Americans by reason of their race, creed or color.”
The statement was made in comment on a recent speech by Mrs. Henry D. Strack of Locust, New Jersey, who at a New Jersey State convention of the DAR attacked what she called “clandestine” kosher markings on canned and packaged goods. She cited such markings of evidence of “how a bold minority can impose its will and even its religious observances on an apathetic majority.”
