The Rev. L.M. Birkhead of Kansas City, who arrived here yesterday to attend a meeting of the institute for Propaganda Analysis, called to chart a program against Naz; propaganda in this country, said today that Father Charles E. Coughlin was bent on becoming an American Hitler. He added, however, that the “radio priest” would not be acceptable to the 800 anti-Semitic groups which Dr. Birkhead said had been formed here since Hitler’s rise to power, since the leadership of such groups was traditionally Protestant. Dr. Birkhead, a Unitarian minister who is national director of the Friends of Democracy, brought a trunkful of anti-Semitic literature which, he asserted, links Germany and anti-Semitic organizations here.
