Representative Hamilton Fish of New York, descendant of the Secretary of State who in 1872 protested Rumanian oppression of the Jews, introduced a resolution yesterday inquiring whether the State Department has protested persecution of Jews in Rumania.
The resolution, which was referred to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, would ask President Roosevelt what information is in the possession of the State Department regarding impairment of Jews’ rights in Rumania and whether persecution has been of such a character as to lead to State Department action for amelioration. Similar resolutions have been introduced by Congressman William Sirovich and Senator James Davis.
