Rep. Thaddeus M. Machrowicz, Michigan Democrat, today urged a House committee to approve new legislation that would use funds from frozen Nazi assets to pay compensation to victims of the Nazis.

The Congressman testified before the House War Claims Subcommittee on his bill. It provides for compensation to victims who are now American citizens or permanent residents whether or not they were during the war. At present, the only claims allowed are those from persons who were U.S. citizens during the war.

Rep. Machrowicz pointed out that many persons who suffered under the Nazis came to America as displaced persons after 1945.
