Condoleezza Rice will visit Israel and the Palestinian areas to encourage peace negotiators to “do more.” The U.S. secretary of state will tour the region next week to “urge compliance by both sides with their ‘road map’ obligations,” her spokesman, Sean McCormack, said Monday, referring to the U.S.-guided peace plan calling for a freeze on Israeli settlement in the West Bank and an end to Palestinian violence, culminating in Palestinian statehood. “I would just refer back to what the secretary herself has said on this, and that is that each side needs to do more, that they haven’t done enough, and I expect that that will be a topic of her conversation when she goes out on the next trip as well as the trip after that,” McCormack said. “This is going to be something that we work with both sides in detail on.” The precise dates of the trip have yet to be announced.
