Despite the disturbed condition of the country since the riots, unemployment figures for the month of October 1929 in Palestine, as just made public by the Colonial office, compare favorably with the figures for October 1928. In October 1929, notwithstanding that nearly 800 workmen entered the country, there were only 700 unemployed Jews and 1,600 unemployed Arabs, while in October 1928 there were 1,400 unemployed Jews and 2,500 unemployed non-Jews. Half of the unemployed Jews in October 1929 are said to have lost their jobs as a result of the disturbances, while about a third of the unemployed Arabs for the same period were in the building trade.
