A declaration affirming opposition to anti-Semitism in South Africa, and pledging that the Dutch Reformed Church in this country would never aid anti-Semitism, was made in a letter sent today to the South African Board of Jewish Deputies by the Cape Synod of the church.
The letter was in response to the Board’s protest against recent articles in an unofficial church publication, Anticon, which linked South African Jews and world Jewry with Communism. “The Jews of South Africa,” stated the synod, “enjoy the freedom which belongs to every citizen in this democratic state, and the Dutch Reformed Church would never support anti-Semitism nor say or do anything which could provide grist for anti-Semites.”
The synod also approved the Board’s attitude condemning subversion and political violence, and stated that it is requesting the office publishing Anticon to report at an early date on its attitude toward Jews.
