Leaders of Chicago Jewry were today expressing gratification at the result of the mayoralty election yesterday which returned Mayor Edward J. Kelly to the office to which he was appointed two years ago.
The election of Mayor Kelly provided a crushing blow to the aspirations of local pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic forces in this city which had been supporting the campaign of Newton Jenkins, third-party candidate who, during the pre-election drive, had been the author of several strong attacks against Jews.
Jenkins came in a poor third, polling only 87,726 votes of a total of 1,052,447 ballots cast.
