BRITAIN FAVORS EARLY SECURITY COUNCIL MEETING
The Governments of Great Britain, United States and France–as co-signatories of the Tripartite Declaration of 1950 which guarantees the present Israel-Arab borders–are now holding consultations with regard to the need for calling an early meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the situation on the Israel-Jordan frontier, Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden told the House of Commons today.
Mr. Eden said he would like an early meeting of the Security Council to examine the Jordan-Israel problem. He emphasized that this problem is causing Britain “considerable concern. ” ” I have expressed this view to some of the other principal governments and I hope that the meeting can take place shortly” he stated, adding that he thought the forthcoming report of Gen.Bennike, the UN truce chief, will create the occasion for such a meeting.
