A new bill which in effect will seek to prohibit shechita, Jewish orthodox slaughtering ritual, has been drafted by the Austrian Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, it was announced here today.
The new bill includes a clause demanding that animals be stunned before they are slaughtered. The Jewish orthodox ritual specifically prohibits stunning before slaughter.
