The Order of Leopold was conferred today upon Muni Goldmuntz, Belgian Jewish philanthropist, on the occasion of his 50th birthday. The presentation was made by Minister of Economic Affairs, M. Coppe, at a ceremony at the Town Hall attended by members of the government, the mayor and aldermen of Antwerp, leading citizens of the city and leaders of the Jewish community.
M. Goldmuntz is one of the country’s leading philanthropists. He was especially concerned over the plight of thousands of Jewish children orphaned by the Nazis and established several homes for them throughout the country. By arrangement with the Israel government, these children were subsequently transferred to Israel.
