Mayor Thomas D’Alesandro of Baltimore proclaimed today “Max Hochsdhild Day” in Baltimore in honor of the Baltimore department store founder who celebrates his 100th birthday tomorrow.
Mr. Hochschild, founder and head of Hochschild, Kohn and Co, one of the largest department stores in this city, came to this country as a boy of 14. His first job paid 50 cents a week. He was born at Gross Rohrheim, Germany. Although he retired as head of the company in 1927, Mr. Hochschild still maintains an office in the store and occasionally visits it.
