The death took place here today of Asher Barash noted Hebrew writer and translator, following a heart attack. He was 63 years old. Mr. Barash began writing while in his teens in Galicia, where he was borh. His first volume of poems was published in Hebrew when he was 25, a year after he had settled in Palestine. He wrote a number of novels on Jewish life in Galicia and Palestine, as well as several volumes of poetry, contributions to leading Hebrew periodicals and translations from several languages into Hebrew. He was awarded the Bialik Prize in 1940 for his Hebrew novel, “Alien Love.”
Mr. Barash was related, through his mother, to the famed Belzer rabbinical dynasty. He was the president of the Israeli Authors and Writers Association.
