A national educational council to coordinate the educational activities of all political movements within the Jewish community was set up here today by 400 delegates from 120 schools and institutions throughout Argentina. The educators and communal leaders met at the first national Argentine Congress of Jewish Education, sponsored by the Federation of Argentine Jewish Communities.
Although Jewish education in this country has been well organized, it has never until now been unified. The new council will be composed of representatives of labor and other political groups and of educational experts.
In reports to the congress sessions, it was revealed that about 25 percent of the Jewish children of this country attend some Jewish school. Among the leading speakers were Israel Ambassador Arieh Kubovi, Jewish Agency vice-chairman Zalman Shazar and representatives of the major organizations of Argentine Jewry. Many teachers and principals of provincial schools participated actively in the debates.
