Dr. Samuel Halphon, the Grand Rabbi of the Jewish Congregation and of the colonies of the Jewish Colonization Association Ica in the Argentine, has been appointed an Officer of the Legion of Honor by the French Government. The distinction was conferred on the spiritual head of the Jewish community in the Republic on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday. The insignia was delivered to Dr. Halphon by the French Minister Plenipotentiary in the Argentine, M. Picot.

Mrs. Leopold Stern, wife of the head of Stern Brothers & Co., died Friday evening at her home, 956 Fifth Avenue, New York, after a three weeks’ illness. She was 64 years old.
