Prof. Selig Brodetsky, president of the Hebrew University who will officially assume his new duties tomorrow, declared at a press conference today that the Arabs have violated the Israel-Trans Jordan armistice agreement concluded on the island of Rhodes by their refusal to allow Jews to use the road leading to Mount Scopus, where both the University and Hadassah Hospital are located.
The Hebrew University asked Dr. Werner Senator, Prof. Brodetsky stated, to proceed to the United States to inform American public opinion of the present situation, which is “hampering the University’s normal life and development.” He said that Dr. Senator’s mission was fully backed by the Israel Foreign Ministry, but added that the University could not wait for the Arabs to open the road and has decided to continue work under present conditions. The University is conducting its activities in makeshift premises in the New City of Jerusalem.
