The Daily Herald reports from Shanghai that Japan as launched an anti-Semitic campaign in north China and Manchukuo, barring both territories to Jewish immigrants. As a result of the drive, 1,000 Austrian Jewish refugees have been diverted to Shanghai. The newspaper reported from Dairen that the Japanese army has been carrying out pogroms, arresting many Jews, most of them Russians.
The Shanghai Jewish Community was stated to be caring for 2,000 destitute Russian Jews as well as 500 Viennese Jews who arrived recently. Transports with 3,000 to 4,000 more Jewish refugees were reported to be en route to Shanghai.
