Dr. Abraham Asscher, Dutch industrailist, Jewish communal leader and one-time political figure in pre-war Holland, died here today at the age of 90.
During the war Dr. Asscher and Prof. Dirk Cohen established a Jewish Council in Holland, on orders from the Nazis. After the war the communal leader, who had been awarded Royal decrations by the Netherlands Government and honored by the city of Amsterdam, was arrested by the Amsterdam authorities on charges of having collaborated with the Nazis. The government never followed through on his trial.
