A judge ordered a nurse to repay almost $1 million to the estate of a Jewish couple so that the New York Jewish federation may receive its due inheritance. Eve Preminger, a surrogate judge in Manhattan, this week found that Hala Delcina Brown took $956,000 from bank accounts belonging to Alfred and Mary Fischer in the final years of their lives. Mary died in 1997, aged 92, and Alfred died in 1998, aged 97.
